Why Does Everyone Enjoy Abundance But Not Me?

Abundance the missing ingredient in your life?…

And the elusive success ingredient in your life too?

It is important to understand the way you feel in any given moment is dependent upon and created by what you are thinking or saying out loud at the same moment. Your thoughts create the way you feel and so how you act. Just think sadness, anger or any other emotion and then sense how you feel?

Need more proof? Keep reading.

When being challenged by events and emotions it can be extremely difficult to maintain a sense of balance in your mental focus. Have you faced this? I know I have.

When all your resources seem to be disappearing or not appearing when you believe you must have them, do you find it impossible to believe there is any abundance in your life?

And Your Mindset is….?

Consciously and consistently creating a mindset which focuses on the lack of what it is you desire, is one of the most effective actions you can take to cultivate a belief in the lack of abundance. Unfortunately most think and speak about what is lacking in their life. Thereby unconsciously focusing on scarcity without even realising it!

Is Your Focus Abundance or Scarcity?

How do you know if you are focused on scarcity instead of abundance? Start by doing a little self-evaluation. Is it your usual tendency to express gratitude for your life or do you think more about what you do not have – lack? When it comes to money abundance, do you usually worry about how the bills will be paid or feeling grateful for the roof over your head and the beauty of nature?

Are you ever envious or jealous of those who seem to have more than you have, or are you happy for the abundance you enjoy? Observing how you think and speak will quickly expose the nature of the focus of your beliefs.

It does not matter how challenging your situation at the moment. I know because it is through my own challenges I have learnt how to alter my thinking to create my life of abundance. You may believe it is the lack of abundance which is forcing you to focus on scarcity – after all what else can you do?

Do You Believe You Can Change the Way You View Your Life?

Are you ready to accept Wayne Dyer´s dictum: If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” 

I know how challenging this suggestion seems. However, if you do not change your focus away from lack and scarcity you will NEVER attract abundance into your life. Remember your conclusion from my initial piece of self-evaluation – what you think or focus on creates your feelings. It is not a matter of how hard you work, it is your thoughts which decide – these are created by your beliefs.

So, start paying close attention to the general direction of your thoughts and emotions regarding your freedom, health, money, and relationships.

Once you start noticing your emotional responses, then you can begin to consciously alter their focus. This will help you to start achieving inner balance.

Replacing Worry and Fear with Feelings of Abundance

Our attitudes toward scarcity and abundance in every aspect of our lives determine our success. Stephen Covey explains these concepts beautifully in his classic The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. He writes:

Most people are deeply scripted in what I call the Scarcity Mentality. They see life as having only so much, as though there were only one pie out there. And if someone were to get a big piece of the pie, it would mean less for everybody else.”

The very first habit sets out that each of us is responsible for own life, successful or not. If you have a Scarcity Mentality then you believe life is a zero-sum game. Whereas if you believe life is abundant then you design your life without limitation or restriction.

Which is what most successful people do, they design their lives and then live their lives with purpose. They are their own boss.

The Abundance Mentality flows from a deep inner sense of personal worth or security. It is the paradigm that plenty exists with enough for everyone to share. It results in the sharing of prestige, recognition, profits and decision-making, opening up opportunities, options and creativity.

Which do You Choose?

Establishing an abundance mindset can empower you with a renewed sense of optimism and confidence. In turn, you will feel more resourceful and proactive. This shift in mindset will alter the way you respond to events in your environment, and the way it responds to you.

Choose to take responsibility for your life, then regardless of your current circumstances – now is always the perfect moment to focus on abundance.

To support this I was reminded in an article by Travis Bradbury in Entrepreneur of 14 Things Ridiculously Successful People Do Every Day. Built from interviews with over 200 ultra-successful people the results gave some fascinating insights as to their habits. For me, the key one from the article was maintaining work life balance. The single greatest surprise – how many wanted to share their morning ritual!

Most nurtured their bodies in the morning with water, a healthy breakfast, and light exercise. They nurtured their minds with meditation or prayer, inspirational reading, or journaling. They also do NOT use To-do lists!

Which is How They Maintain the Clarity to Succeed

Clarity I define as understanding and documenting your personal and professional development objectives. Then determining the “why” behind reaching them. Which means it needs a clear vision. From this flows where we are in relation to where we desire to be.

Without clarity, it is almost impossible to generate the kind of focus necessary to act swiftly and deftly on a daily basis. If you have no clear vision, there is nothing to tie your objectives to and nothing to measure your progress and performance against.

When you have clarity about your vision, you discover yourself being pulled toward it. All you have to do is act upon the opportunities that carry you along, allowing you to mark your progress faster and faster.

What Have You Been Grateful for Today?

Gratitude is a powerful aspect of an abundant mindset. A grateful heart is at the centre of an abundant life. To quote Steve Maraboli from his book, Life, the Truth, and Being Free, Those with a grateful mindset tend to see the message in the mess. And even though life may knock them down, the grateful find reasons, if even small ones, to get up.”

As to the different aspects of abundance: freedom, love and wealth to name a few, change your relationship to each and you will create more abundance. What matters more than anything is the way that you feel about freedom, love, money. When you are afraid, ashamed, frustrated or confused, each is less likely to appear in your life.  And when it does, it will probably give you many challenges!

And the Opportunity for Abundance is….

As to the opportunities, I leave you with a quote from Abundance by Peter H. Diamandis and Steven Kotler “humanity is now entering a period of radical transformation where technology has the potential to significantly raise the basic standard of living for every man, woman, and child on the planet.”

By a future of abundance, they do not mean luxury. They mean a future that will be providing all with a life of possibility.” This means an ever increasing myriad of opportunities for those who chose to take responsibility for abundance in their life.
